Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An
About
Excellent links-style course thats well worth the trip
Located on attractive coastline just an hour south of Da Nang, and recipient of the accolade of Best Golf Resort in Asia Pacific at the 2019 Asian Golf Awards, Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An is an international-standard 18-hole golf course set on an undulating landscape of rolling dunes, natural vegetation and rugged, hilly terrain. A links-style affair of jagged, white sand, pristine Paspalum turf and plentiful water features, it's been attracting rave reviews since opening in 2019.
The course is beautifully framed by trees, the wispy casuarinas by the ocean giving way to deciduous trees as the course plays further inland, with rugged sandy waste areas and water on more than half the holes ensuring that you're always kept on your toes.
After a fairly gentle opener, the 2nd is a short, doglegging par-4 whose generous fairway is dotted with bunkers and bordered by a lake to the left. Nonetheless, a good drive should see you off to a strong start before the course starts to toughen up, notably at the 5th, a long par-5 with a narrowing fairway that will have you playing your approach at right angles over water to reach the hidden green.
The 6th is a driveable par-4, but no less than 10 bunkers mean the percentage play is probably to lay up for an easy par, especially with water lurking to the right. More water is in play on the striking par-5 that follows, a forced carry off the tee giving way to a narrowing fairway that wraps around a second lake on the opposite side; attempting to reach the green in two is a risky business, with a cluster of sand traps lying in wait on what would otherwise be the optimal line.
Sand again dissuades all but the longest hitters from taking the tiger line off the tee at the 10th, a long par-4 that snakes through the trees, and another cluster of bunkers is ready to ensnare anyone optimistic enough to go for the green at the long par-5 15th in two.
The closing trio of holes are particularly good, the 16th a very long par-4 with a green set to the right of an imposing lake, the 17th an attractive par-3 with bunkers either side of the putting surface, and the last a very long par-5 whose fairway is repeatedly narrowed by encroaching trees as it arcs to the right en route to a green guarded by a heft bunker complex.
As one would expect from an award-winning golf resort, Vinpearl is home to excellent facilities, including a luxurious, modern clubhouse, with stylish locker room, restaurant and bar. You could easily spend many days at Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An enjoying the golf and resort, which makes it an ideal stop on any golf holiday in Da Nang.
Reviews
The overall experience was poor. The facilities were ordinary and the caddies weren’t trained up to the level expected.
This course is a very uninspired design and fell well short of expectations. I personally believe it should be removed from your list of courses to play.So far so good
A bit slow green and cart could not be on fairway. I played 3 rounds of golf in Da Nang trip this time. I would recommend another two golf courses if you are not staying at Hoi An area.Beautiful course with poor management
The course is very well designed. Not overly long but well planned for a round of fun golf. Greens were slow on the day we played. The caddies were wonderful and knew their yardages and putting lines. The horror was when we found out that our tee time at 11.24 was not going to be honoured because apparently on weekends including Fridays they have a shot gun tee off at 12.30 which we weren't informed about. The agency in Vietnam has not informed Golf savers about it. Unfortunately even at 12.35 we had not teed off and that is when we had to literally fight and get a cart and caddies after a lot of shouting and screaming, we loaded our own bags and then after much ado, since we created a scene, they sent us to hole number three. Needless to say there was no shotgun and it was all a hoax. They only cater to Korean golfers who come by the droves and as we have experienced the world over are the most unpleasant people to deal with. It was very sad to see the old Vietnamese culture no longer existent and replaced by a new greed only for money that wasn't there before. I will definitely not play here again because the hassle of dealing with 200 plus Koreans jostling for space and walking all over you is not how I want my golf round to be. It was overall a very stressful day and was by far the worst golfing experience in my life. It was just fraud all over as they only cater to these big groups and we saw a lot of people go ahead of us even before 12.30 PM and we were left waiting. Just sheer apathy at this course and no one was even apologetic.Course Info
